In a heartbreaking announcement, beloved Adelaide venues CREAM, Diamond Burger, Girl Next Door and Remy’s – Deep Dish Pizza & Bar are closed effective immediately.

The news comes as a shock to the local community, where these four venues have built a loyal following over the past decade.

Owner Joshua Rivers confirmed the immediate closure of his entire hospitality group in a social media post.

“It’s with a very heavy heart that I announce the end of my company, including all four sites.

“I was 24, had won multiple awards, and knew how to run front of house, but I lacked administrative skills.

“I gifted half of my company for $0 to someone I loved and trusted but when they walked away after my wedding, forcing me to buy them out for an amount that gutted the company. It became impossible to recover,” Mr Rivers said.

The decision to turn to this individual for a lifeline, eventually became the company’s undoing as despite working tirelessly to create new businesses and cover the financial strain, there was mounting pressure.

Rivers expressed deep gratitude to his staff and customers.

“To the 300-odd staff who worked for me—you were the heart and soul of these venues. To the regulars at CREAM, you created a community like no other. I will always cherish those memories,” Mr Rivers said.

Rivers, who opened CREAM at just 24 years old, quickly became a rising star in Adelaide’s hospitality scene.

CREAM’s innovative menu and vibrant atmosphere made it an overnight success.

Remy’s Deep Dish Pizza & Bar was also a part of the collection of venues that closed with the pizza bar opening after six months of renovations, completed by Josh and his father Damon.

Popular east side burger joint Diamond Burger, which opened in 2023, also announced its closure in 2025 after two years of success in Glenunga.

Rivers’ resilience and creativity have defined his career so far. While the closure of his beloved venues marks the end of an era but no doubt an exciting new chapter for this Adelaide hospitality legend is coming.
