The Adelaide bar scene is set to welcome a sophisticated new addition to the East End with the opening of Septimus House of Cheese and Wine, this April.

Located on Grenfell Street, Septimus promises an intimate experience where expertly curated wines, artisan cheeses, and rich soundscapes come together to create a truly unique setting.

Septimus will offer a standout seven cheese and wine pairing as its signature experience that will be designed to delight wine and cheese lovers alike.

Visitors will be able to tantalise their taste buds with French cheese and will be in expert hands as they experience a curated wine list that includes both French vintages and wines from a variety of vineyards across South Australia.

The venue’s name, Septimus, Latin for “seventh born”, reflects this focus on seven pairings.

The selection includes three white wines, three red wines, and a dessert wine, each carefully matched with complimentary cheeses, sourced from iconic Adelaide Central Market cheesemonger, Say Cheese.

The goal is to help patrons explore and appreciate flavour combinations that might not be familiar, but are deeply rewarding.

But Septimus isn’t just about the palate,it’s about the atmosphere. The venue will feature a high-fidelity sound system and patrons will be able to enjoy a mix of vinyl and CDs, creating an immersive soundscape to enhance the tasting experience.

The interior design reflects this thoughtful curation as you are welcomed by lilac walls, paired with Tasmanian oak timber, green marble benchtops, and delicate French curtains beneath the original stained glass windows, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.

Carefully selected artworks from local and international artists, including the likes of artist Donovan Christie, will adorn the walls, providing a cultural touchpoint for visitors.

Septimus’ location within the historic Adelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange has been thoughtfully restored, preserving the building’s character while adding a contemporary touch.

The space will cater to up to 50 patrons, with seating available across two levels, including views of the city from the second floor.

The experience at Septimus is designed to be approachable yet refined, encouraging guests to discover new wines and flavour profiles in a relaxed setting. The menu will also feature a selection of well-rounded wines available by the glass or bottle.

Set to become a go-to destination for wine lovers and cheese aficionados alike, Septimus will bring a fresh energy to Adelaide’s wine and dining scene, an elegant yet welcoming space where good wine, good music, and good company come together.
