Derrimut 24:7 Gym welcomes a colossal new 9,500-square-metre gym facility in Elizabeth.
Three years in the making, the new gym is being described as the biggest in Australia and represents a new direction for the Derrimut brand, combining traditional strength and conditioning with specialist training, group fitness, recovery, wellness and even spaces to work between sessions.
And with more than 500 pieces of gym equipment, 100-plus cardio machines and more than 600 free car parks, the numbers alone give you some idea of its scale.
But this isn’t simply about building a bigger gym.
“Ultimately, it’s the line in the sand in showcasing what Derrimut is about moving forward.
The new Elizabeth destination has been designed to cater to just about every style of training,” Fitness Performance Manager Ashlee Cooper said.
Members will have access to expansive strength and conditioning areas, functional training zones, boxing facilities, group fitness spaces and a basketball court.
There will also be a dedicated HYROX training facility, tapping into one of the fastest-growing fitness formats and giving Adelaide athletes a purpose-built space to prepare.
For those who prefer their workouts heated, things are quite literally getting hotter.
A dedicated hot yoga and Pilates studio will sit alongside a reformer Pilates studio and group fitness room, giving members plenty of opportunities to switch between strength, cardio and lower-impact training without changing venues.
One of the biggest additions, however, will be an extensive dedicated women’s gym.
Rather than simply sectioning off part of the main floor, Derrimut says the area has been specifically curated around the training preferences of female members, including dedicated glute and lower-body equipment.
“We really want to give the women a space here that’s theirs and it’s all about them.
“All of the equipment we’re putting in there is specific to what the women want,” Cooper said.
Recovery will be almost as extensive as the training offering.
The wellness area will incorporate infrared saunas, cold plunges and cryotherapy, allowing members to move from their workout into recovery without leaving the building.
There’s also a nutrition bar, supplement and apparel superstore, showers and amenities, while a dedicated business hub will give members somewhere to open the laptop and get some work done before or after training.
For Derrimut, the new facility also represents a shift towards creating something that extends beyond exercise.
Senior Manager Ben Whittingham says community and connection will play an increasingly important role in the brand’s future.
“We are in a new era where we want to build that community and build a Derrimut family,” Whittingham said.
At 9,500 square metres, the sheer scale of the new Elizabeth gym is impressive.
But it’s the combination of specialist training, women-focused facilities, wellness, recovery and community spaces that signals where Derrimut believes the traditional gym experience is heading next.
After three years of planning, Adelaide is about to find out.
