One of Adelaide’s most prolific small-bar groups is adding another address to its growing portfolio, and this time it’s heading upstairs.
The award-winning Cantina Group, the team behind Jennie, Malt & Juniper, Alfred’s and Bar Bar, have opened No.6 East, transforming the first floor of a character-filled 1920s building on East Terrace into an intimate terrace bar overlooking Rundle Park.
Located at Level 1, 6 East Terrace, the new opening will become Cantina Group’s fifth venue, but don’t expect a carbon copy of anything the team has done before.
At No.6 East, the philosophy is simple: Welcome Home.
Rather than feeling as though you’ve walked into another bar, the team wants it to feel like you’ve been invited upstairs to someone’s very good house party.
Guests will enter from East Terrace and climb a flight of stairs before arriving at an enclosed balcony styled as a private terrace.
Forget perfectly matching furniture and overly polished interiors. No.6 East is leaning into character, with mismatched but carefully considered furniture, established-looking greenery, eclectic artwork and collected objects that appear as though they’ve each got a story to tell.

It’s the kind of space designed to feel lived-in from day one says Venue Manager and Co-Owner Lachy Harrison.
“My favourite place to drink has always been someone else’s house.
“So, when we started putting the concept together for No.6, and saw the character in this old 1920s building, it was a bit of a no-brainer,” Venue Manager and Co-Owner Lachy Harrison said.
That philosophy will extend beyond the interiors and into the way the venue operates.
The team describes its approach as hosting rather than service. Instead of waiting to be asked, staff will anticipate what guests might need, make recommendations and, ideally, remember your name by the time you return for a second visit.
“Whether you’re out on the drinking terrace, around the dinner table or standing at the bar, you’ll always feel welcome at my place, ” Harrison said.
The location could also make No.6 East one of the East End’s most coveted drinking spots as Adelaide moves into summer.
Sitting directly opposite Rundle Park, the terrace provides a new vantage point over one of Adelaide’s busiest cultural precincts.
The entire venue will also be available for private hire, although Cantina Group isn’t positioning it as another traditional function space.
Instead, think of it as being handed the keys to a particularly stylish friend’s house for the evening, terrace included.
Its existing portfolio ranges from tiny wine bar Jennie and spirit-focused Malt & Juniper to the contemporary pub feel of Alfred’s and agave-driven cocktail destination Bar Bar.
Now, No.6 East adds a new personality to the family.
And with an East Terrace address, a private drinking terrace and a philosophy built around making everyone feel at home, we suspect Adelaide will be making itself comfortable very quickly.
