A groodle with a grooming dilemma changed Priscilla Barletta’s life as she knew it and that of “oodle” pet owners everywhere.
The G’oodles journey began in 2019 when Priscilla Barletta and her fellow dog-loving friend found themselves navigating the high-maintenance world of curly-coated dogs.
Struggling to find products that didn’t smell or look clinical or that truly worked for any breed of “oodle”, it made managing the curly coats of four legged friends, between grooming appointments, incredibly challenging.
Everything on the pet store shelves looked and smelled clinical and for those out there with fur babies, which led to the creation of G’oodles.
G’oodles is a proudly female owned, South Australian business creating premium detangling shampoo and spray designed especially for curly-coated dogs, helping pet owners everywhere bring ease to their grooming routines with the hard work and dedication of heart-led entrepreneur, Priscilla Barletta.
From idea to execution, it took over two years of experimentation, branding, and a lot of heart, but the journey to launch wasn’t fast or easy. The initial concept for G’oodles was confirmed while Priscilla was working at a local doggy daycare and grooming facility.
Every day, she heard the same frustrations from pet owners: high-maintenance coats, tangles, and the sheer hassle of at-home grooming between professional appointments.
Armed with a love for dogs, the intention of the business was to create pet maintenance products that were cute, fun, and actually worked.
“We didn’t have all the answers, but we knew what we wanted—products that detangle, smell amazing, and bring ease to the grooming routine. I wanted this to work, not just look good on a shelf,” Ms Barletta said.
Inspiration for produce was drawn from the needs of curly haired pets, with everything from the scent to the efficacy was trialed, tweaked, and tested against competing products. G’oodles was launched in late 2022, just as the pet industry was booming post-pandemic. Starting with direct-to-consumer ecommerce, the brand gained traction, with
Priscilla often packing orders at crazy hours or replying to customer inquiries in the middle of the night.
Since then, G’oodles has experienced a staggering 630% increase in growth over the last 12 months, scaling from a modest ecommerce brand to landing shelf space in major pet retailers like Pet Circle and Swaggle.
“You really do have to spend money to make money in ecommerce,” Ms Barletta said.
Behind the scenes, Priscilla juggles more than just marketing plans and product development. She balances her business with life as a mum of two. She even laughed when asked about work-life balance.
“I work in daycare windows and nap schedules. I’ll do emails while breastfeeding at 2 a.m. It’s not glamorous, but it’s mine. G’oodles is my third baby, ” Ms Barletta said.
After a previous career in sponsorships she made a leap of faith and resigned just before the pandemic and her passion for animals never wavered.
Her love for animals is at the heart of everything G’oodles stands for. The products are functional, full of personality, wrapped in playful, joyful branding that reflects the relationship people have with their pets.
What sets G’oodles apart is more than just effective formulas, it’s the emotional investment that Priscilla has poured into this venture.
G’oodles isn’t just a business, it’s a brand built on lived experience, passion, and persistence. It’s Australian made, designed with intention, and driven by someone who knows firsthand the challenges of keeping a curly-coated dog comfortable…and cute.
With a goal to triple profits this year, Priscilla now has her sights set on international expansion.
Despite the sleepless nights, Priscilla’s commitment hasn’t wavered with her stating that the more time she spends on G’oodles, the more passionate she becomes.
