Forty years ago, in a modest shed tucked away in Mount Barker in South Australia’s picturesque Adelaide Hills, a dream was planted. That dream, envisioned by husband-and-wife team Jurgen and Ulrike Klein, would go on to redefine beauty, not with synthetic formulations or fleeting trends, but by nurturing a profound connection between nature, science, and the human spirit.

Today, Jurlique stands as a global leader in natural skincare, recognised and loved in more than 27 countries. Yet even as its footprint expands, the heart of the brand remains deeply rooted in the rich, rolling hills where it all began.

Jurlique’s founders believed that the secret to high-performing skincare wasn’t locked away in labs, it was growing all around us. From the beginning, they championed biodynamic farming, a regenerative agricultural practice that respects the earth’s natural rhythms and enriches the soil rather than depleting it.

That philosophy continues today at Jurlique’s various footprints. Spread across lush acres of pristine farmland, over 40 varieties of botanicals — including calendula, viola, marshmallow root, lavender, and, of course, the world-famous Jurlique Rose, are lovingly cultivated using biodynamic methods. Each seed is planted with intention, each plant hand-harvested at its peak, ensuring the potent natural ingredients that have become the soul of Jurlique’s products.

In honour of this remarkable milestone, Jurlique is inviting the public behind the scenes like never before.

Their immersive farm tours offer guests a first-hand look at biodynamic practices, from seed propagation to compost crafting.

The Handpicked Experience allows visitors to gather fresh botanicals and craft personalised blends using pure essential oils, creating a tangible connection to the brand’s essence.

Adding to the excitement of the anniversary year is the unveiling of an extraordinary botanical creation: the Intense Rose, developed in partnership with renowned rosarian George Thompson, the very same man who developed the unique Jurlique Rose years prior. This unique variety is a celebration of Jurlique’s dedication to innovation and plant science.

The Intense Rose, with its deep purple hue, has inspired a brand-new range, launching in June with a luxurious hand cream and mist.

For the first time, Jurlique will also be offering live Jurlique rose plants to the public, allowing customers to take home a piece of the farm and deepen their personal connection to nature.

Long before “clean beauty” became a global movement, Jurlique was leading the way with its transparent, sustainable, and holistic approach. Their products, like the cult-favourite Rosewater Balancing Mist, Activating Water Essence+, and the revitalised Herbal Recovery range, seamlessly combine scientific innovation with botanical purity.

With recent B Corp certification under its belt, Jurlique’s commitment to environmental stewardship and social impact has now been recognised on a global scale. It’s a badge of honour that echoes the brand’s original vision: to replenish and respect the earth while caring for the wellbeing of its community.

Even as Jurlique looks outward, its gaze remains fixed on a regenerative philosophy: giving back more to the earth than it takes, and ensuring that future generations can continue to harvest beauty from the soil.

Jurlique’s journey from a Mount Barker shed to an international icon is a testament to the power of authenticity, patience, and vision. In a world increasingly seeking transparency, purpose, and real connection, Jurlique stands tall, a beacon of conscious beauty, nurtured by nature and guided by integrity.

As they celebrate four decades of pioneering skincare, it’s clear that Jurlique’s story is only just beginning. With new roses blooming, new products launching, and a vibrant community growing around their beloved farm, the next 40 years promise to be even more extraordinary.
