Get ready, Adelaide. The ramen scene is about to get a serious shake-up. This June, a one-of-a-kind culinary collaboration is landing in the city, and it’s set to be a broth lover’s dream.
From 20 to 29 June, Gouger Street’s beloved Ryo’s Noodles will host Brisbane’s cult ramen favourite Lulu Ramen in an exclusive one-week kitchen takeover. For the first time ever, South Australians will have the chance to experience Lulu’s boundary-pushing ramen, including Adelaide’s very first chicken-based paitan broth.
If you’re unfamiliar, Lulu Ramen has become something of a phenomenon in Brisbane. Revered for its inventive flavour combinations, refined technique, and dedication to quality, Lulu Ramen approaches ramen with the kind of care typically reserved for fine dining. Their culinary ethos turns a humble bowl of noodles into something unforgettable.
At the heart of the takeover is their signature chicken paitan broth, simmered slowly for over eight hours with chicken and dried scallops. The result is a rich, creamy soup with remarkable clarity and depth, full of umami warmth without the heaviness of pork. This style of broth is a rarity in Australia, and Lulu’s version is already generating buzz among ramen purists.
Among the standout dishes is the Chicken Ramen Cappuccino which is a beautifully presented bowl topped with black pepper foam, delicate lotus chips, and tender sous vide chicken breast. It’s a visual and textural masterpiece that balances comfort with creativity.
For the more adventurous, the Matcha Sansho Duck Ramen offers a bold twist, blending matcha-infused broth with slices of gently spiced duck breast and the aromatic tingle of sansho pepper. This kind of ramen is nearly impossible to find anywhere else in the country.
Every detail of the experience has been considered. Noodles are made fresh daily using premium Australian wheat and state-of-the-art Japanese machinery, ensuring perfect bite and elasticity. A house-made seafood sauce, crafted from more than ten natural ocean ingredients, is used to enhance both chicken and seafood notes in the bowls. Even the drinks have been carefully curated, with creative cocktails and complementary beverages designed to elevate the entire dining experience.
The takeover will operate on a walk-in-only basis for both lunch and dinner, with limited bowls available each day.
With no bookings and high anticipation, early arrival is strongly advised.
Don’t miss this chance to savour an unforgettable ramen experience, right in the heart of the city.
