There’s something brewing in the Adelaide Hills and this time, it’s more than wine.
Gumeracha’s newest hotspot, Bottle Shock, has already turned heads with its gamified approach to wine tasting and now, it is about to raise the bar even higher, unveiling a food menu designed and led by none other than Jeff Trotter, a chef whose resume spans Michelin-starred kitchens abroad and some of South Australia’s most loved dining rooms.
Bottle Shock is bringing Trotter’s philosophy of “honest, approachable, and fun” dining to the heart of the Hills. Known for stripping away unnecessary fuss and letting great ingredients shine, he’s creating dishes that don’t just complement Bottle Shock’s wines, they keep pace with the bar’s playful, high-energy ethos.
It’s a natural fit. Bottle Shock, an offbeat creation from the team behind Unico Zelo, was built on the idea that wine shouldn’t be intimidating. Instead, it should be fun, interactive, and just a little bit cheeky. Guests step into an experience that’s more game than tasting room, where the traditional rules are tossed aside.
Trotter’s culinary journey is as impressive as it is eclectic. Over two decades, he’s clocked time in Michelin-starred kitchens across England and Ireland, cooked for crowds at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada, and worked alongside acclaimed chef Dan Hunter at the Royal Mail in Dunkeld. Back home, he’s left his mark at Comida, and most recently spent four years shaping the kitchen at Lobethal Rd. Together with his partner, hospitality veteran Nikkita Wood, he also launched Food For Wine, a venture that celebrates simple, joyful dining built around flavour.
So what can Hills locals (and curious city-dwellers) expect at Bottle Shock? A rotating menu that evolves alongside the bar’s themed wine events. Think Toasted Mortadella Buns, Salt & Vinegar Tater Tots, and the already-legendary Quarter-Metre Gourmet Sausage Roll, a permanent fixture with a different themed filling each month. First up? A bold Greek Lamb & Tzatziki number.
With Bottle Shock’s irreverent energy and Jeff Trotter’s culinary firepower, Gumeracha may have just become the Hills’ newest food-and-wine pilgrimage. The game has officially changed.
