The team that brought Shibui Dessert Bar to the Adelaide CBD is spreading their sweets to the eastern suburbs with their new venue, Shmochi by Shibui.
Shmochi is the sixth business that chef Quang Nguyen will open after a string of very successful sweet and savoury South Australian venues including Shibui Dessert Bar, Third Time Lucky Coffee, Devour Cafe Patisserie, Ong Vietnamese Kitchen and Noi Vietnamese Eatery.
Shmochi by Shibui is bringing the best of Shibui creations and a number of Adelaide festival favourites to the suburbs of St Peter’s in what has been described by the trio of owners as a “passion project”.
This project marks a significant milestone for the trio of owners Quang Nguyen, Thy Nguyen and Lisa Chao, who have been looking for a location for over a year, to bring their dream of a suburban venue to life.
Shmochi combines the team’s flair for nostalgic flavors in a fresh suburban setting, offering a unique dessert dining experience to
visitors and one that will continue to excite fans and newcomers alike.
Co-Owner Lisa Chao, says Shmochi is the answer to long-time requests for their team to deliver a range of desserts that have been a hit at local festivals, all year around.
“Shmochi will feature a dynamic range of our customers’ favourite festival desserts, including scooped ice cream, soft serve, mochi-
based hot and cold delights, and playful spins on viral dessert trends. But we’re not stopping there, just wait to see what we have
coming!

“We are beyond excited for this venture. It feels like it’s been the culmination of all of our favourite parts of projects we have been a part of all rolled into one.
“Shibui customers have been asking us for years for a place to enjoy the same wonderful desserts they were seeing at festivals around Adelaide, and now we are delivering that and more,” Ms Chao said.
Co-Owner Thy Nguyen, states that Shmochi represents more than just desserts—it’s about giving back to the community that has
supported the Shibui dream for over 6 years.
“This isn’t just a dessert bar. Our venue, like all our venues, is about building connections through shared experiences and through
wonderful dishes.
“Shmochi is a place for friends, family and the whole community where everyone is welcome, and every day can be sweet. We want to create a space that you can visit on your good and bad days. Our customers have been asking for this for a very long time and we can’t wait to be amongst them and welcome them to our new venue.
“Shmochi represents the future for us: a place where we can bring the best of what we’ve built and share it with the community in a new and exciting way.
“Having a young family of our own has really highlighted to Quang and I that we wanted to build a venue that combined our two great loves, family and mochi. We believe it is a privilege to share our family creations with our community and we can’t wait to show them what is coming next,” Mrs. Nguyen said.
Chef Quang Nguyen takes pride in crafting all of the elements of the iconic desserts on-site, ensuring the highest quality and freshest ingredients in every bite, sweetening Adelaide’s dessert scene one mochi doughnut at a time.
