Adelaide’s bustling Hindley Street is about to welcome a fresh new face in the food and beverage scene with the opening of Yuku Dō, a modern Japanese-inspired café and comfort food destination designed to bring relaxation and quality to the heart of the city.
Behind this exciting new venture is Anjelin Lim, a passionate foodie whose lifelong love for Japanese cuisine and deep-rooted connection to hospitality have inspired the creation of a space that seamlessly blends comfort, convenience, and elegance.
Anjelin, a Malaysian Chinese entrepreneur, has been immersed in the food and beverage industry since the age of 14. Now 27, she brings over a decade of experience to Yuku Dō, paired with an impressive academic background in aviation. After graduating from UniSA in 2020 as a trained pilot during the height of COVID-19, Anjelin found herself drawn back to her true passion, food.
“I’ve always loved food and traveling, especially to Japan.
“Since I was young, I’ve been visiting Japan almost every year and staying for up to two months at a time. The precision and simplicity of Japanese cuisine have always fascinated me, it’s all about letting the ingredients shine. That’s the inspiration behind Yuku Dō,” Ms Lim said.
The idea for Yuku Dō was born from the energy and diversity of Hindley Street, surrounded by university students, hospital staff, research professionals, and corporate workers.
The name Yuku Dō reflects this philosophy perfectly. “Yuku” is a slang term meaning “to go” or “let’s go,” while “Dō” means “a place to hang” or “a place to eat.” It’s a fitting name for a brand that combines the elegance of a high-end café with the convenience of a modern to-go service.
Anjelin saw an opportunity to create a much-needed escape, a place where busy professionals and students could enjoy high-quality, fresh comfort food without sacrificing speed and convenience.
“I wanted to create a space where people who’ve been sitting under harsh fluorescent lights all day, staring at screens, can relax and reset.
“The design of Yuku Dō is inspired by Muji aesthetics, the clean lines, soft natural tones, and a calming atmosphere. The open park-like bench seating brings a touch of the outdoors inside, encouraging people to unwind even if they’re just stopping by for a quick coffee or meal,” Ms Lim said.
The menu at Yuku Dō reflects Anjelin’s commitment to quality and authenticity as each dish is made fresh to order, with locally and internationally sourced ingredients.
Looking to the future, Anjelin envisions Yuku Dō growing into an international brand with multiple locations, each adapted to the unique tastes and cultures of its local market.
“I want Yuku Dō to feel personal and meaningful, no matter where it is,” Ms Lim says.
Yuku Dō promises to bring a fresh, elevated café experience to Adelaide, blending Japanese-inspired flavors with a modern, relaxed vibe. With Anjelin’s passion and vision driving the concept, it’s set to become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike.
This is just the beginning, stay tuned and keep your eye on Yuku Dō.
